Clean Energy and Fewer Toxics Roundtable

For 25 years, the  Pacific NW Pollution Prevention Resource Center's Regional Roundtable has brought together businesses and technical assistance providers to learn and share solutions about reducing source pollution. This year’s Roundtable will focus on two of the most crucial aspects to long-term environmental and economic health: preventing climate change and preventing toxics. It’s also a great networking event in a beautiful location!

Day 1, October 25, will focus on mitigating climate change, on regional challenges and success stories from tribes, agencies, and businesses.

·         Our keynote speaker, Patricia Cochran, an Inupiat Eskimo who works for the Alaska Native Science Commission, will speak about impacts from sea level rise on native villages in Alaska.

·         Bill Dewey, from Taylor Shellfish, will reveal the adaptive management strategies that have helped the business thrive under changing environmental conditions.

·         You’ll also hear about tools and resources that can help businesses makesound investments in renewable energy and energy efficiency.

Day 2, October 26, will focus on toxics reduction as well as putting pollution prevention in historical context. Where do we go from here?

·         Lauren Heine, from the Northwest Green Chemistry Center, will talk about the movement to create safer alternatives to toxic boat paints.

·         PPRC’s own Marjorie Martz-Emerson will provide an update on the risks ofheavy metals in our foods and how we can move toward a more preventative approach.

·         Ken Zarker, of the Washington Department of Ecology, will present on what businesses should know about the new and improved Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA).

·         The Kitsap Resiliency Project will show how sustainability relates to earthquake preparedness.
