Bio

As a rising senior and Urban and Environmental Policy major at Occidental College, Lauren interned with Climate Solutions' Business Partnerships Program in summer 2015. A passionate environmental and social justice activist, Lauren believes in the intersectionality and importance of bridging together social justice and environmental policy.

Lauren has been active in local Seattle politics through her work with The Washington Bus and Got Green?, both leading environmental justice and youth empowerment organizations. At Occidental College, Lauren serves as Real Food Challenge coordinator for Campus Dining.  She also works for the Los Angeles Community Action Network’s civil rights CommunityWatch, and in that capacity responds to human rights violations, as well as coordinates civil rights campaigns on Skid Row.

During fall 2014, Lauren was a founding organizer for Occidental’s Fossil Fuel Divestment campaign, which calls on Occidental to take a stand against contributing to climate injustice though divesting from Big oil, coal and gas companies. This past spring 2015, Lauren was abroad in Nepal studying Nepal’s culture, language, and development approaches. Over the course of the semester, Lauren contributed to women development literature with her primary research report on the historical and present factors that have contributed to the development disparity between women of central and northwestern Ghandruk, Nepal. In Lauren’s spare time she enjoys backpacking in the beautiful PNW, laughing with friends, and dancing to bluegrass.
