Earth Day is Wednesday, April 22—let’s celebrate in Seattle with some powerful climate action!
Demands for effective, dramatic action to protect our climate have become the new normal, and the Northwest is positioned to lead North America into the clean energy economy. But at the same time, coal export and oil trains threaten to make our region the fossil fuels superhighway of our continent. As this year’s Earth Day approaches, we are once again called to stand up for our future and the health of our communities.
On Weds. April 22 from 10am to 3pm, join us for a Climate Action Festival at Seattle Central College! Speakers include Earth Day founder Denis Hayes, Duwamish Tribe chair Cecile Hansen, Seattle Mayor Ed Murray, Climate Solutions’ KC Golden and master satirists the Yes Men.
Musical guests include local superstar MC and author Gabriel Teodros and eco-fem folk rock duo Animals of Grace.
The free event will showcase sustainability efforts and paths to effective climate activism from more than 25 regional organizations, plus live music, artful activism and more! Food will be offered for sale by the school’s culinary academy.
“Earth Day can be an abstract concept for people,” said Max Shuman, a program assistant with Seattle Central and a founding member of the Sustainability Council. “We want to show people that climate issues are in everyone’s backyard and we want to motivate people to take action.”
Sponsoring organizations include Seattle Central College’s Sustainability Council, 350.org, Climate Solutions, the Capitol Hill EcoDistrict and the Sierra Club.
Climate Action Festival: 11:30 am to 3 pm
