100% Electric! BYD Bus
Decision coming soon! Tell TriMet you want clean electric buses
September 20, 2018

We’re at a critical decision point on the path to zero emission electric buses! TriMet is making funding decisions next week and wants to hear from YOU about whether they should take a first major step in the transition off a diesel bus fleet.

TriMet's proposal includes their first major purchase of electric buses and installation of charging infrastructure over the next four years! They are also proposing many other important investments to improve transit, including expanded service and low income fares.

You can help make sure this funding proposal becomes a reality by filling out this quick online comment form to TriMet by September 25th. Scroll down to the "What do you think" box at the bottom of the page, and let them know your priorities. Some ideas for what to tell TriMet:

  • I agree with the proposed allocation of House Bill 2017 funds, including buying at least 80 new battery electric buses and prioritizing routes through low-income communities burdened by high air pollution.
  • Important funding in addition to electric buses include expanded transit service to underserved areas and fully funding low income fares.
  • A robust, affordable transit system – powered by zero emission buses – is good for our air and climate, and essential to getting people where they need to go without adding more cars to the road.

As the single largest user of polluting diesel fuel in Oregon, it is time for TriMet to join other transit agency leaders like King County and Los Angeles County, who have already committed to transitioning to electric buses. By making this transition, TriMet will be reducing air, noise, and climate pollution, and will also be saving money over time, allowing them to spend more money on better transit service, increasing the climate benefits even further.
