Advanced Energy Revenue Surging

Advanced Energy Now 2015 Market Report is the third annual report of market size, by revenue, produced by Advanced Energy Economy (AEE), which defines advanced energy as the “broad range of technologies, products, and services that constitute the best available technologies for meeting energy needs today and tomorrow.”

Partnering with Navigant Research, which relied on more than 60 studies on clean energy industries and four years of revenue data, the AEE report finds that the US advanced energy market, at $200 billion, comprises 15% of the global market and grew 14% from 2013 to 2014, five times greater than the overall US economy.

Building Efficiency products and services make up the largest segment of US advanced energy and grew 43% from 2000-2014. The Electricity Generation segment jumped 47% to $45.8 billion in 2014. Revenue was up 34% for plug-in electric vehicles and revenue from electric vehicle charging infrastructure grew 31% to $201.5 million, a seven-fold increase since 2000.

Globally, advanced energy grew to just under $1.3 trillion, a 12% increase over 2013, with 2014 the biggest growth year for advanced energy worldwide since Navigant began tracking in 2011. Electricity Generation tops the segments globally and grew 16% over 2013, with wind power up 40% to $95 billion and hydropower up 45% to $122 billion. The fastest growing segment of global advanced energy was Electricity Management and Delivery up 33% to $67.9 billion in 2014.
