Helping the Northwest lead the world in sustainable aviation
The Port of Seattle announces new plans to help make Sea-Tac one of the first airports where passengers can fly on planes powered by low-carbon fuels, Our new report assesses the industry's efforts to make such fuels widely available. The short version: we're next in line for takeoff.
Sustainable Advanced Fuels

Sustainable Advanced Fuels accelerates low-carbon alternatives to petroleum fuels in the Northwest. By putting a Clean Fuels Standard in place in Washington and Oregon, helping to build a viable advanced fuels market in the Northwest, and supporting international efforts to build a sustainable advanced fuels supply chain, we aim to achieve significant reduction in carbon emissions due to transportation fuels.

Sustainable Aviation Fuels: the dream nears reality

Powering commercial aviation with fuel made from cooking oil, wood chips, or garbage? These climate-friendly alternatives are closer to market than you might think.

Backroom deal doesn’t compare with clean fuels program

The oil industry wants to protect their monopoly, and wash their hands of responsiblity for cleaning our air and protecting the climate. That's what's behind their proposed "replacement" for Oregon's Clean Fuels Program. Lawmakers shouldn't fall for it.

Clean fuels help kids breathe easier, who’s opposed to that?

Washington prides itself on our dense forests, clean water, and sweet air. But dirty petroleum fuels are fouling our future; our asthma rate is higher than the national average. Speeding the development of clean fuels offers a healthy way forward for our environment, our economy, and our kids' health.

Big rigs leading the way on low-carbon transport

When you think of low carbon vehicles, are you more likely to envision a sporty Tesla than a delivery truck? If so, it may surprise you to know that the big rigs on the road—government and commercial fleets of trucks, buses, and even tractor trailers—are leading the charge toward clean, low carbon transportation.

Tar sands and oil trains and Shell, oh my!

A new report reveals that the Pacific Northwest is the next frontier of the tar sands invasion. Desperate for routes to get their crude oil from land-locked Alberta to refineries and export markets, the tar sands industry has its sights set on our communities and coastline.

EV tax incentives: good for Washington's economy

As the Washington State Legislature struggles to balance its budget, tax exemptions are rightfully receiving scrutiny. But here’s one that pays for itself and thus should be a no-brainer:  the electric vehicle tax sales exemption. Why?  It's worth $68 million to the state’s economy over the next 16 years.

Clean Fuel Standard: a solution for pollution

With nearly half of all carbon pollution coming from truck and car tailpipes, Big Oil is running out of reasons to maintain its monopoly on our roads.

Important Step toward Making Northwest a World Leader in Sustainable Flight

Today the Port of Seattle, Alaska Airlines and Boeing announced a joint effort to build new infrastructure needed to make Sea-Tac International Airport one of the first places in the world where planes will be able to fuel up with sustainable, low-carbon alternatives to traditional jet fuel. This agreement is an important step in a long and critical journey. Climate Solutions' new report, "Towards Sustainable Aviation Fuels," assesses the industry's efforts to make such fuels widely available. The short version: we're next in lline for takeoff.
